Catch a Can

Image
Lazy, Lazy day sitting around waiting for the rain to stop. Then a nice walk around town and along historic Creek Street and close-up look at some cruise ships. Then we shared blackened halibut and King crab for our last dinner. What a great trip!   Great work getting the degree Lawson. The world is your oyster...or halibut....or crab I suppose.  I love you Son.    Read and beleive John 3:16-17

Ketchikan

Did I mention rain?  Dang this rain made Juneau seem sunny.   Psalms 90:14

Juneau to Ketchikan

Image
We enjoyed walking without rain for a bit down the waterfront in Juneau where they have a great whale fountain.  Then we went to the fish hatchery and on to our boat bound for Ketchikan.  Lots of rain.  We were playing cards and would run out to watch several whales.   Even with the rain, the marine highway is spectacular. read Psalms 1

In the Clouds

Image
At the top of the Goldbelt Tram in Juneau we were in the clouds.  With a brief break in the rain (45 seconds) we could see the four cruise ships in port.  Lawson struck up a conversation with the maintenance manager and we got a tour of the motor room.  600 hp DC motor.  Impressive. Out to the Mendenhall Glacier where it's interesting to see how much it has receded since I was here in 2012.  The rain persisted so we had lasagna and pizza which is good for rain depression. Psalms 40:2-3

Juneau

Image
I think people in Juneau go to Seattle for a little sunshine. We suited up and enjoyed walking around the waterfront.  Four huge cruise ships in port. Psalm 16:11 today.

Anchorage again

Image
We woke up on Crow Creek outside of Girdwood.   Old Gold mine up there.  Lawson had a tour with the manager of lift operations at Alyeska Ski Resort.  Then we drove the coast to Anchorage and returned the RV. We dropped luggage and visited the Alaska Air Museum and looked out over the largest seaplane base in the world.  Amazing the amount of General Aviation aircraft sitting around on ground or floats. I am always amazed at the number of 747 cargo planes coming and going out the window at Anchorage airport.  Tonight we flew into Juneau.  We got Lawson a window seat....we thought. Proverbs 30:8-9

Seward is awesome

Image
Great seafood Alfredo at Rays. Today we went out to see the Exit Glacier. Big change since I was here in 2012. Astonishing   Then we drove up to Girdwood/Alyeska today. We will spend the night somewhere around here after Lawson checks out this ski operation as a future potential place to work   Proverbs 29 today

Earl of Sandwich Sound

Image
Prince William Sound was initially named  Sandwich Sound by James Cook, after his patron the  Earl of Sandwich .    We loaded onto the Marine Highway Ferry at 6 and enjoyed a 6 hour ride over to Whittier, where it is still raining since I was here in 2012 and 2020. Proverbs 28

Drive to Valdez

Image
The drive down into Valdez is stunning. I’d want to brush up a good bit before I shot an instrument approach in here. Lots of rocks in those clouds.  Proverbs 27 today

Kennecott

Image
Went flight seeing around Wrangell–St. Elias National Park today. Amazing!  I really wasn’t aware of this national park and it’s our largest !  Over 3100 glaciers. Wow Then took a tour of the mill at Kennecott. This mountain was full of copper. Fascinating the great efforts to get everything out this far from civilization.  Proverbs 26

McCarthy, AK

Image
Through Chitna, breakfast by the Chitna River and then 60 miles of rough road to MCarthy. Spectacular views.  Proverbs 25

North Pole to squirrel creek

Image
We had a leisurely day visiting North Pole then down the road to camp at Squirrel Creek. Lawson made some great steaks. Long shadows at 930pm and sun kinda sets around 11

Richardson Highway

Image
if you are following us, we are heading out of Fairbanks tomorrow toward McCarthy, AK.  Look it up, it's WAY out there, so it might  be a few days until I'm able to post more. Contemplated Proverbs 24 today.  I'm really enjoying those morsels.

Fairbanks Fun

Image
Rainy day but we enjoyed it.   Went up to Skiland to check out a unique lift.  Stopped to check out a section of the Alaska Pipeline.  Enjoyed the incredible Antique Auto Museum and Museum of the North at the University.  We walked around Pioneer Village some more and then great pizza. Watching Shrek in the RV tonight after good pizza ....while it rains. Read Proverbs 23 this morning.  Real good stuff.

Just for the Halibut

Image
Willow, AK - we were beat from a long day of travel and finally found a place to pull in by a church to "camp".  After some coffee we started rolling through low clouds and rain.  Awesome Halibut fish and chips at Mary's in Trapper Creek.  Drove past Denali NP because the entrance was closed due to fire.  Didn't even get a selfie at the sign!  :~( Drove to Fairbanks.  Went walking and found a ski lift (His line of work) to look at.  Enjoyed the Pioneer village and MORE HALIBUT at Alaska Salmon Bake.  yum. Reading Proversb 22.

Celebrating success!

Lawson worked hard and got the degree, so we are heading out to enjoy Alaska.
